Hi I’m Maya! Thanks for stopping by…
It’s a wildly crowded blogosphere, yet I started The Carat Soup because I couldn’t quite find a website like it. Written by somebody that I could relate to.
After 3.5 years (including a sabbatical when I was in the middle of nowhere sans internet) my focus has changed.
I’m now concentrating on content that tells my story – as only I can share it with you. As well as showcasing extraordinary women from my industry.
Who are you?
I am a curious adventurer, explorer, level-headed lover of life, travel, literary fiction and yoga. Thoroughly enjoy working alongside brands that have an ethos and unbridled commitment to causes that truly resonate with me.
What do you actually do?
As well as gemstone and alloy sales, I’m a writer. For print, radio and online.
You can listen to my radio show, Hidden Gems with Maya here (link) and I’m about to (June 2018) launch The Carat Soup podcast. I’m also a GIA alumna and previously had a role at one of the world’s best auction houses in the jewellery department. I work with brands for media strategy, social media management and consultation as well as good ol’ copy writing.
I’m involved in projects that support girls’ education, improve the lives of women and aid conservation efforts.
What’re you good at?
My strengths include writing and editing articles centred around the luxury industry. Namely gemstones, jewellery, the arts, fashion, design, architecture and travel.
What do you enjoy doing?
Adore exploring the world, contemporary African art, hiking, devouring books, and sipping English breakfast tea or Darjeeling, with almond ‘mylk’. A recent convert to oat ‘mylk’ flat whites too.
