On 14 November 2018, you can own a piece of Marie Antoinette’s jewel collection. She was a bon vivant and the last Queen of France.
Before I go further, I have to tell you a story quickly. A necklace that once belonged to Marie Antoinette was purposely destroyed after a winning bidder claimed their lot at auction. This happened quite a long time ago, yet I still audibly gasped and even thinking about it now as I type gives me the heebie-geebies…
I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard about the buyer ripping a necklace to pieces. Granted after the sale, one can do as one wishes. Yet, it BELONGED TO MARIE ANTOINETTE for crying out loud. Provenance, craftsmanship, owning a slice of history, c’mooooon, how and why?!?!
Anyway, moving swiftly on. If you wish to own one of her pieces, good news! Sotheby’s have a sale in Geneva, this November (14 November 2018).
